The doctor knows what he is talking about. My mystery infection is under control and soon will be just a memory.

Network Testing

Today I was in need of a web service to test some network settings. It's best to test from the outside!. What I found with a quick Google search serves me well. Check Network-Tools for lots of cool tools.

Feeling Good

Dangerous Programs

Be very careful with you select which programs you want to be running on your computer. Choosing poorly might be the last time you run anything. Do yourself a favor
  • Don't run software for email
  • Don't run software for questionable sources
  • Do get a good anti-virus application.
  • Do get a good firewall application.
  • Do get a good spyware remover.

Still Fighting

I caught some kind of infection that at first looked like it might me tooth or gum related. It quickly moved into the lower jaw and throat. Thinking it was the beginnings of a cold/flu I took the normal action. A week later it had only got worst. A trip to the dentist, some xrays and some poking around reveled that my teeth and gums are not the problem. Next antibiotics and some pain medication. Three days later and still process in the healing process, I headed of to my doctors. Now I have more antibiotics that are targeted at my soft tissues and some more pain pills. Oh I almost forgot they stuck a little pick in my ass. I will be back on Monday for more.

Beware of Memorex

Just before Christmas I purchased a spindle of 50 DVD+R under the Memorex brand for a great price. Well, I just tried to use them last night and my system does not recognize the disks. I checked my system for all the latest driver and BIOS patches to no effect. Next I googled my problem and found my dissatisfied customers of Memorex banded DVD+R products. After some consulting with some people in the know, I will be trying some Imation disks.

Dish Problems

At Christmas, one of our dish network recievers decided to quit just as a nice new television was being installed. After much investigation the problem was found to be a bad cable. Fast forward a few weeks. During the testing of some new cabling, my second reciever quit doing it's thing. This time it looks like the unit it's self is to fault. It's not providing power to the dish. What to do?

Get Thunderbird

Mozilla also makes the Thunderbird the new email client for PC, Mac and Linux. As a long time 'happy' user of Outlook, I decided to give Thunderbird and try. It has some cool features such as the super fast search engine that's intergrated right into the main email display and the ability to store searches as virtual folders. I am going to continue using it despite missing some features from Outlook. Check it out ... http://www.mozilla.org/products/thunderbird/
